My Role

As a Senior Product Designer, I work across both Product and Digital Services teams. I have been working within globally distributed teams at the Australian founded company since June 2018.

Within product, I lead design within globally distributed teams tackling roadmap application, feature requests, and design system evolution. I'm consistently working with product owners and senior staff in identifying flaws and potential innovation, often being relied on to present solutions that drive Squiz product growth.

With offices dotted across Northern American, Europe, and Australasia, I was exclusively led design innovation across the northern hemisphere.

Squiz Matrix
Being an all encompassing content management system, Squiz Matrix is the driver in a vast majority of Squiz revenue, being the go to CMS for Government & Higher Ed across the globe.

I work with the product team on maintaining and building backend components that empower Squiz clients within their CMS. Often, this will be driven by simple feature requests that live in the backlog. It can also be tied in with corporate requests for specific features and functionality that may not exist.
Once a painpoint or feature request is identified, I'll work alongside developers and product owners in the design engineering of components and functionality, often heavily relying on producing animated/interactive iterations to showcase look, feel, and functionality.

Squiz Funnelback
The Funnelback product is the product I work on the most. Much like Matrix, I focus heavily on the design of back end systems that users engage with.

Carrying it's own analytical dashboard, much of my work surrounds exploring opportunity for data visualisation, and identifying API's and libraries that drive them.

As a product, Funnelback holds the search capabilities that enable the product team the opportunity to create search recipes and templates that operate in ways that are exclusive to certain sectors. This gives us a lot of room to ideate and prototype solutions that we take to market as a product.

Leveraging Service Design
Through working within service teams in the application of Squiz products into client infrastructures, my relationship between product and service squads allows me the opportunity to create reports that feed into the product backlog.

Squiz Design System (SDS) for Web & Marketing

I worked with a team of designers in establishing design patterns for UI components based on a brand refresh. This included the composition of standard web components and innovative functionality exploration.

We documented and detailed all findings in Figma, and created a component structure that would enable for simple variation amends and seamless dev handover.

I worked with dev teams in the handover and QA of incorporating the Figma Library into the active design system.

Squiz DXP Dash Home

In 2022 Squiz invested in a brand makeover, adopting new colours and brand assets the omitted an entirely new mood and aesthetic.

I worked with the product team in aligning the Digital Experience Platform with the new brand. This involved ensuring the visual language was adhered to, icons and marks were refined to inherit the Squiz DNA, and spacial parameters were consistent across product components, and interactions were enhanced to amplify the tone.

The changes to Squiz products were not yet applied to the design system fully, and the team were using the improved component anatomy as a springboard.

Considerations surrounding meta fields and personalisation were key in ensuring the new components obtained improved usability.

Squiz DXP Signed-in menu modals

I worked on providing the product team an array of menu modals for signed in users. The brief identified a number of users and where they might be able to access menu items.

We explored options surrounding signed in users from the Squiz main website, and the DXP dashboard.

Funnelback Program Finder

Illuminate an academic path for every current and prospective student with Funnelback Program Finder. Built atop the industry-leading Funnelback for Higher Education platform, Program Finder is a pre-built, flexible addition to your website.

So much depends upon attracting prospects and students to the right degree in the first place. Showcasing degrees and providing easy, downloadable comparisons offers a significant return on investment by driving enrolment.

I worked with product owner Gioan Tran in conceptualising and design engineering Program Finder, adopting an innovative approach to provide as much value as possible. We identified multiple areas within the current student search experience that could be improved upon based on our experience in higher education, and tackled the list with advance functionality and categorisation techniques.

With the intention of empowering College and University enrolment, the Program Finder stencil houses the following features:

  • Rich Autocomplete and Filtering

  • Shortlisting (“compare programs”)

  • Rich summaries (including program requirements, dates, images and summaries)

  • Recommend similar programs automatically

  • Personalise results automatically to account for domestic or international students

  • Monitor trends with robust analytics

The product was sold and implemented within multiple university search infrastructures, delivering immediate results.

Action Modal Application

I was briefed by the product manager to explore how we can incorporate forms and action modals into the latest DXP user interface.

Beyond designing the modal, I migrated the design files over to Framer to build out a quick prototype sitting on top of React. Doing so allowed our development the opportunity to utilise a prototype that already ran on the framework DXP is powered by.

Subscription & Usage Viewport

I was briefed to create the DXP 'Subscriptions and Usage' dashboard page, maintaining the newest iteration of the Squiz DXP design system.

I was provided was a list of meta fields and component considerations, and worked with the wider team in producing blueprints that demonstrated how action chips and data could be displayed within the limited real estate of the viewport.

Squiz DXP Mobile Sign-in Interactive Prototype

We recognised the need to explore DXP sign-in options for mobile users due to the current experience being vastly dated in comparison to the desktop experience.

I created multiple iterations inside Framer, allowing me the opportunity to work in live react components.

Squiz DXP Illustrative Application

I worked exclusively on the creation of illustration and animation work to amplify product and service messaging for the updated Squiz brand.

I was briefed with a large task document collated by the marketing team and development team. This included visual requirements from a brand perspective, including the print and digital formats in which all materials might be used. I also worked with development in ensuring all illustrative work could be housed within particular components, potentially creating new components to frame the visuals.
